Abstract:
BEST Robotics stands for boosting engineering, science, and technology and was created to get students hands on experience with engineering. In the BEST Robotics competition students compete to create robot designed to do specific tasks based on the theme that year. It causes students to use their critical thinking and problem solving skills to create a robot as a team. Best has been helping kids learn to program and build robots since 1993. Through the year BEST has gone from having 14 teams to over 700 teams impacting students and helping them grow for the future. The Engineering Design Process for BEST Robotics Goal: I will design a robot using Fusion 360 to use for the BEST Robotics Competition. I will need to learn how to use Fusion 360 in order to fulfill my goal. Research/Planning To prepare for the BEST Robotics season I have been working on learning fusion 360. I have been using tutorials on YouTube to help me learn. I have used fusion 360 to make things such as a screwdriver and a basketball. This has given me a better understanding for the software. Create: For the first few months I worked individually to learn how to use the vast library of tools inside of Fusion 360. I then started to do research into what the robot need to be able to do for the competition. I needed to create a robot that was able to traverse the field and pick up blocks. I went through a few designs before finally deciding on one. Once I had the basic design down I started to search for/create cad designs for the parts. I started with the drive base and then started placing where the battery and control hub would go. From there I added the claw mechanism for the robot. Test/Evaluate I think the project turned out well and I really enjoyed designing and creating the robot. I wasn't able to test it or build it, but it is what it is. I will continue to try to improve on this design in the future. Self-Evaluation: I learned a lot from this project and learned that I enjoy using CAD to design things. I will definitely do similar projects in the future whether it is in class or on my own time. |
