Finishing the LampI finished up my lamp project after having to rebuild my lamp numerous times due to the pegs used to assemble the lamp breaking. Presentation

I continued work on the CAD model and finished the final design for each part and the connections between them. I will start printing parts so I can start assembling the final lamp next week.
I created a test piece to test tolerances for the print in place bearing design that I plan on implementing in the final lamp. After tuning the tolerances in the test piece, I designed the final shutter system in CAD and added joints to test the shutter's motion.
After creating the study model and testing it out with the actual lightbulb, I decided to make the lamp's shutter a movable linkage rather than being a rigid part. I prototyped linkages within MotionGen and then created sketches that show how it will tie into the actual lamp.
This week I worked on creating a study model using my new lamp design. The study model was made from cardboard, tape, and hot glue. The model was made smaller than what I had planned on for my actual lamp, but I like the smaller size more than what I had been planning, so I'm going scale down the cad model.
I have started the design for the final lamp that I intend to make. I created a simple sketch that outlines the plan for the lamp and shows some of the advanced geometry that makes up the full form. I then CADed the lamp, this design uses a combination of shapes with sharp angles along with smooth objects to create a contrast between the two in a unique form that requires 3D printing to manufacture.
Before I started on my final design for the lamp I created prototype lamps that didn't represent the final lamp, but helped with the overall design process for the final lamp. The first lamp prototype that I made was a simple lamp that was modeled off of a basic desk lamp. The second lamp prototype was meant to represent the symbiotic relationship between the crocodile and the plover bird. It is meant to show the crocodile's open mouth with the bird, represented by the lightbulb, hanging in the mouth. This has been simplified down to basic shapes which form the overall relationship.
